Kids and Teen Chat Rooms

     Chat rooms can be a great place for kids and teens to meet people and discover new ideas. But many chat rooms can be dangerous, and kids are the target of many online predators. For this reason alone it is important for kids to stay safe in chat rooms and only go in chat rooms that are specifically designed and protected for kids and teens. AOL and Yahoo Chat are two such chat hosts that have specific chat rooms designed for kids.
     Children must learn how to stay safe in chat rooms. For one, teach your children never to give their real name or location. If someone asks for a location, tell them to tell the state name only. Not everyone is who they say they are so to guard your child against predators and tell them never to give out any personal information to strangers. Also, make sure that your child never meets anyone from online in person without you going with them. Predators may try to meet children in real life for bad reasons, so make sure they are protected against this. Lastly, make sure your children are in monitored chat rooms. Monitors keep the chat safe and monitor what the kids are saying. Yet, the monitor is not able to tell if someone who says they are 13 years old really is in fact 13 years old, so make sure to give your children the tips they need to stay safe while chatting.
