What is a chat room?

January 3rd, 2008 by howardj

Chat rooms, or chatrooms, are any form of communication through text messaging to people in real time. When you send a message in a chatroom, anyone who is a member of that chatroom and is online can read it and respond to it immediately. The kinds of chatrooms include Instant Relay Chat, talkers and havens. Many people began using text based chatting, or IRC, due to AOL or web chat sites. Some text-based chatrooms, called graphical user interface, even allow the user to select an identifying icon and to personalize the look of their chat environment, the screen on which they view messages.

Video Chat

August 6th, 2007 by admin

Years ago, online chat was limited to text messages, and occasionally picture messages as well. Today, online chat has evolved to encompass video chats as well. Primarily, this has been made possible through the use of webcams. A webcam is a device used to send videos from your home to the world wide web. In short, a web cam is a real time video camera attached to a computer, whose images can be sent directly to the internet, instant messaging, or another video application.
Using webcams, people can chat live online, while seeing each other in real time. The most popular use of webcams is when a model or other individual will tape him or herself on the webcam or display it live, while others watch the show. Users can subscribe to these kinds of shows, and this has been proven to be a multi billion dollar industry that has become a staple format for digital adult content. Other uses include videoconferencing for business or other purposes, and gaming. Webcams and video chatting have become so popular in the past few years that apple computers have started to build webcams into their computers, for users enjoyment.
